SHADES OF WICKED is the first book in the Night Rebel series. I believe this is a spinoff from a previous series but this is my first book by Jeaniene Frost so I’m not 100% sure about that! I will say that this one won’t be my last…

Veritas is a Law Gaurdian. She’s tasked with keeping vampires, ghouls, demons and all kinds of other supernaturals in check. And she’s damn good at her job. So when she learns that the carefree criminal, Ian, can be used as bait to capture an especially vile demon, Dagon, Veritas is more than happy to do so. But there’s more to Ian than what meets the eye. They’ll both learn what it means to truly trust someone if they want to survive.

Wow…what a trip, y’all! This book is non stop action from chapter 1. There’s so many layers to both Veritas and Ian and I loved peeling those layers back page by page. I knew Veritas had to be a physically strong heroine simply because she was a Law Guardian. But she was also super smart and cunning too. She definitely gave as good as she got. Yet, oddly enough there was a sense of vulnerability about her also. Ian, on the other hand was a downright vamp scoundrel! He wanted everyone to believe that he had no cares in the world other than sex and partying but we all know that a good hero is capable of bouts of greatness and Ian was no exception. Sometimes I wanted to throttle the scallywag and other times I wanted to hug him! Kudos to Ms. Frost for making Ian so detestable AND lovable at the same time…not an easy feat. Veritas and Ian are a classic case of opposites attract and I loved every sexy moment!

The plot was fun and fast paced. It had me on my toes and although Veritas and Ian don’t really find their HEA, it still succeeded in drawing me in and keeping my interest. My only complaint? Cliffhanger! Ian needs to tell his side of the story next and I can’t wait! Told completely from Veritas’ POV. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
