Not What I Expected is a small town, standalone romance.
Elsie Smith has lived in her small town all her life. After the tragic end to her marriage, she knows better than to give the town gossips anything to talk about. But when the gorgeous, YOUNGER Kael Hendricks opens another specialty store right across the street from hers, Elsie knows she’ll do what she has to so she can “take him down!”
I love Jewel E Ann! I’m sure I’ve said this before but she has a special way of creating characters that worm their way into your heart! I want to live inside every book I read from her!
Elsie is struggling to find her place in life. As a single parent, she wants to do the best for her four kids, even though they’re older. But at what cost? Should she put aside her own happiness for the happiness of her kids? So many right, wrong and in-between answers, who really knows all the best decisions to make? I felt totally connected to Elsie because this could be my life! (Except, you know, meeting a young stud..) Her story was both funny and heartwarming yet at times, extremely sad and heartbreaking.
I’ll admit, I definitely connected better with Elsie than Kael, probably because it’s told from only her POV. Kael almost felt like a secondary character which would normally irk me. However, I actually enjoyed the way this was written because I think Elsie’s story was important and relevant. Don’t get me wrong, Kael was a great character… charming, sweet, fun, sexy. It’s simply that this was ELSIE’S tale and in needed to come from her point of view!
This romance was definitely another hit for me and will be added to my READ AGAIN E-SHELF! Told from Elsie’s POV with a happy, if unconventional, ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
