What else can a virgin do when she’s ditched at the altar? Seattle heiress Mackenzie Dupont is treating herself to a single-girl honeymoon in Mexico and a desire to relinquish her innocence to a gorgeous one-night stand. Fake names. True pleasure. But when she wakes up alone, Mackenzie realizes just how much anger is left in her broken heart.

Suffering a tragic personal loss, pro soccer player Slade Rodriguez has his reasons for vanishing without a goodbye. Right or wrong, he’s blaming the beautiful and infuriating stranger he never wants to see again. They’re both in for a shock when Mackenzie shows up as his new personal assistant. And they both have a lot to learn about each other. Because they share more than they could possibly know, including a common enemy who’s playing his own games. And he’s not afraid to get dirty.

Now there’s only one way Mackenzie and Slade can win: to trust in each other and to stop hiding from the lies they’ve told, the secrets they’ve kept, the mistakes they’ve made, and the attraction that still burns between them.

A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

Risky Play (Red Card, #1)Risky Play by Rachel Van Dyken

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

RISKY PLAY is the first book in the Red Card series. This one’s a steamy standalone!

Mackenzie “Mack” Dupont is nursing a broken heart. She’s a jilted bride but she’s still determined to enjoy her “honeymoon” in Mexico, alone. Slade Rodriguez heads to Mexico for a few days of relaxation away from his ex fiancee and all the pressures of being a professional soccer player. Is it fate that Slade happens to meet the lovely Mack on the airplane or can it be more?

I’m positively giddy over this one y’all! First, I adored the characters, all of them, from Mack who was down right classy and sassy to Jagger, who was Mack’s friend but Slade’s enemy. Gah, this story has everything in it! You’ll find sorrow and pain, happiness and comfort. It made me laugh, it made me smile but it also broke my heart. Because Slade isn’t just some jock out for a good time. No, he gets put through the emotional wringer. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a heavy read, RVD did a fabulous job of giving us a story that had the potential to be dark but delivered it in a way that was light, swexy.

I apologize if this review seems to be all over the place! I wanted to write all kinds of accolades but then I’d be here all day. So, I’ll just recommend this book for anyone who’s looking for a lighter read with a plucky heroine and a swoony soccer star. And I can’t wait for Jagger and Matt’s stories! Told from dual POVs with a funny, creative end. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
