PROTECTING HER is an opposites attract standalone and my first read by author Summer Cooper.

Ember Jones is homeless and stranded in London after getting kicked out by her drug dealing boyfriend. The only thing she took with her was her guitar. When she begins panhandling in the park by playing her music, she’s just looking for enough change to get something to eat. But when a handsome stranger offers her a hot meal and a place to sleep, Ember can’t believe her luck.

So, here’s why I rated this one three stars:
1. The romance between Ember and Kevin seemed to be stuck at warp speed, it felt rushed and yes, maybe a bit unbelievable even for this die hard happy ever after romance fan!
2. The relationship rush made it super hard to connect to the characters
3. Ember was incredibly indecisive which unfortunately was a real downer for me because I prefer my heroines to be stronger

Having said all that, there were some redeeming qualities that I enjoyed and appreciated. For the most part, it was well written, despite a few inconsistencies. I’m also happy that Ember grows a backbone by the end of the book, albeit a small one! The plot had a lot of potential, I mean who isn’t entertained by a Pretty Woman, rags to riches, Cinderella-like story? And even though Kevin wasn’t my first choice for alpha of the year, I definitely saw his character grow and morph into a sweet, understanding hottie.

Told from dual POVs with a happy ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
