Saorsa

[seer-sha]Noun – Scottish Gaelic

Freedom, salvation, redemption, liberty.

It’s not a concept Charlotte Rose has ever considered.

She’s busted her tail her entire life.

Worked at her doomed marriage

and slaved to build the company she loves.

Work is life.

Love?…yeah, that’s something she’s learned to live without.

Divorced and tired of the fight over her beloved business,

she’s jaded and she knows it.

Charlotte needs a fresh start.

So she packs up and moves across the ocean,

to be with the one solid thing left in her life: Her best friend.

With all her energy focused on what the future holds,

she dives right back into old habits,

throwing herself into work and neglecting life and love.

She has no idea life is choking her until him…

They meet by chance, and now he’s everywhere.

He’s so centered, so calm.

She needs someone to save her from herself.

Redeem her from her past mistakes.

Free her to discover who she really is.

It’s clear that the enigmatic Rhys has found his saorsa.

The question is: Can he help Charlotte find hers?

SaorsaSaorsa by Kerry Heavens

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

SAORSA is a steamy standalone. This is my first read from Kerry Heavens and Heather Shere.

Charlotte Rose is so over her ex husband and her life in Chicago. She decides to make a huge move to London for a fresh start with her bestie. Straight off the plane, she meets a sexy, tattooed Scott. As the weeks go by, it seems she keeps running into Rhys everywhere! Their chemistry grows with each encounter but is Charlotte ready for a new relationship?

So, I’ll begin by saying that I LIKED this book but didn’t LOVE it. I felt like there was a few parts thrown in that were just unnecessary to the storyline. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the back and forth between Charlotte and her friends. The secondary characters were fun and quirky but I think there was too much emphasis on them and it didn’t really add anything to the story.

Charlotte was strong and independent and I truly admired her for uprooting her life and making a new beginning for herself. And I loved it when she FINALLY comes together with Rhys, who by the way, is a scrumptious hottie! The book is well written, easy to understand and follow. BUT for some reason, I couldn’t really connect with Charlotte. I can’t exactly pinpoint why, maybe it was the mindset I was in.

Overall, although I didn’t completely fall in love with this book and it’s characters, I’d still be willing to try another from these authors. Told from Charlotte’s POV with a happy ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

“Can I get your number?” he asks, catching my elbow to halt me and then letting it go just as fast.
I still for a moment then look back and shake my head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
He faintly tilts his head and studies me for a moment. The crystal blue of his eyes bore into me, breaking his stare I look over at Louise and Cami.
“Charlotte,” he implores in his rich whiskey voice. I move my gaze back to him, shaking my head. “How long are you in town for?”
“I’m here to stay,” I reply softly.
A hint of a smile quirks on his lips. “Maybe we will run into each other again then.”
“Perhaps,” I offer. “If we are meant to be friends, I’m sure the stars will align and we will meet again.” I was channeling my inner Louise with that line of rubbish. I have to bite the inside of my lower lip to keep myself from smiling.
“You areNvery intriguing, Charlotte.”
My name on his lips gives me pause, but I force myself to finish our goodbye. It’s for the best. This is the first day of my exciting new life, the last thing I want or need is to get tangled up in a messy break up.
“I’ll catch you later,” I say with finality. Turning to walk away, I try to make a smooth departure but trip on air. One second I’m falling and the next I’m caught around my waist and lifted back up to my feet. I don’t even have a second to process what happened before he speaks.
“Careful, kitten,” he murmurs close to my ear. “You’ll hurt yourself.”
I shiver, goose bumps ripple down my arms. I turn around to look at him and our faces are too close for comfort. I take a step back so that I can breathe. “Thank you, I’m not usually so clumsy.”
“It was my pleasure…What’s your last name?”
I wonder for a moment if I want to give him that information, but then it comes unbidden from my lips. “Rose.”
“Charlotte Rose.” He takes my hand, bending down to kiss my knuckles. “Until we meet again,” he says softly, and then he turns and walks away.
