Hey y’all…happy Throwback Thursday! I’ve got a TABOO ROMANCE that my good friend, Sophie @Beware of the Reader has been telling me to read for awhile now…

Throwback Thursday is a meme where I can share some oldies but goodies…books that are older than a year and have been sitting on my TBR for awhile or books that I’ve read & enjoyed, often from my READ AGAIN E-SHELF. I’ve seen this meme floating around for awhile now so I finally decided to jump on board. Thanks to Renee @ It’s Book Talk who started this meme…if you get a chance, go check out her blog!💖

A shocking, heartbreaking story of taboo romance that’s as compelling as it is controversial.

Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As de facto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives—and the way they understand each other so completely—has also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: A love this devastating has no happy ending.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

FORBIDDEN is a taboo romance and a standalone.

Lochan (age 17) and Maya (age 16) are brother and sister. Their alcoholic and often absent mother has basically left these two to raise their three younger siblings. But what happens when Lochan and Maya turn to each other for comfort? And what happens when that comfort turns to more?

Let me warn y’all first that yes, this is an incestuous romance between brother and sister. But no, it’s not page after page of sex. In fact, small spoiler, there’s very little sex as their love is not really about that. This is one of those books that falls smack in the middle between black and white for me. Because putting aside the fact that Maya and Lochan are related, their connection transcends beyond the physical. They turn to each other for solace, for reassurance as they desperately try to keep their family together. Here you have these two teenagers basically filling the role of Mom and Dad. It’s heartbreaking, tragic, freaking agonizing to read. But at the same time, their relationship is strangely beautiful in a way. Confusing, I know, but like I said this story falls right in the grey area of romance.

In the end, Maya and Lochan’s story will stay with me for a long time! I cried and sobbed and railed…ended up with a huge book hangover from this poignant tale. Told from dual POVs with an ending that will shock and disturb you but also one that’ll leave you with a bit of hope. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
