🌹Things That Make You Go HMM…A Discussion (Mini Rant) About Authors Using Ghostwriters!🌹

Hey y’all…WARNING! MINI RANT AHEAD!

Here’s a question for you. What do think about GHOSTWRITERS?

According to Wikipedia.org this is what “ghosting” is:

ghostwriter is hired to write literary or journalisticworks, speeches, or other texts that are officially credited to another person as the author. Celebrities, executives, participants in timely news stories, and political leaders often hire ghostwriters to draft or edit autobiographies, memoirs, magazine articles, or other written material. In music, ghostwriters are often used to write songs, lyrics, and instrumental pieces. Screenplay authors can also use ghostwriters to either edit or rewrite their scripts to improve them.

Not sure if anyone’s aware of the newest drama floating around Twitter about a certain romance author who’s been outed as a plagiarist. GASP!

That’s a dirty word in my world! No, I’m not here to be a babble gabble or to point fingers at anyone, that’s not my thing. But this “author” was accused of plagiarizing romance greats such as Nora Roberts, who retaliated with a post that you can read here:

Not a Rant, but a Promise by Nora Roberts

Apparently, this romance “author” used a ghostwriter to write her books, then she put her name on the cover and published them. As I understand it (& pardon me if I’m wrong!), the ghostwriter she used, simply took parts from other books and slapped them on some pages. To be clear, I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against ghostwriters as a whole. Many people use ghostwriters and I have no problem with that. That’s not why I’m freaking out!

Here’s my conundrum:

I. DID. NOT. KNOW. THAT. AUTHORS. USED. GHOSTWRITERS!

Does this make me incredibly naive or just plain stupid? Because honestly, I NEVER ever thought that an author needed a ghostwriter. I mean, isn’t that what an author, by definition, does? An author WRITES! Am I wrong? Maybe. I just feel so disappointed and disillusioned. It’s not like I actually read anything by the person being accused but still. It’s the idea that I could be reading stuff by someone other than the author that’s on the book.

Anyway, sorry for the rant! That actually wasn’t my original intent at all! It’s just a subject that makes me go HMM…

Your turn….what do you think about GHOSTWRITERS? Let me know in the comments, let’s discuss! Have a good one y’all!💜
