SECRET LUCIDITY is a contemporary standalone and is my first book by author E.K. Blair. This one has some themes that may be triggers to some!
Camellia (Cam) is a 17 year old senior in high school. She’s on the cusp of a bright future…an athletic, smart, popular young woman. But a tragic bombshell explodes her world into pieces. She pushes everyone away except for her new 30-something swim teacher, David, whom she turns to for comfort and kinship.
From the very beginning, my heart just broke for Cam and her family. I won’t give away the reason but just know that I cried through half of this story! Cam is struggling to find peace, trying to make it through day to day in a world she can’t really connect with anymore. She’s vulnerable but still has a core of strength. Perhaps falling for her much older teacher fits into that grey taboo area but I LOVED David for Cam. I feel like he gave her so much emotional support, he was sweet and he doted on Cam. It was easy, sometimes, to forget their age difference.
The story is extremely well written, it really tugged on my heart strings! Ms. Blair did a wonderful job creating a tale fraught with emotional angst. It was a rollercoaster ride of passion, strength, hope, perseverance and the healing power of love. Told almost entirely from Cam’s POV with a happy ever after. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Aside from writing, E.K. Blair finds pleasure in music, drinking her Starbucks in peace and spending time with her friends and family. She’s a thinker, an artist, a wife, a mom, and everything in between.
