My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’ve read several books from Maya Banks in the past and always enjoyed them so I jumped at the chance to read this one. That being said, I’m just a tad disappointed in this story. First, the good stuff! The drama and suspense LEAPS into action from literally the very first page and is pretty consistent throughout the book. There’s a whiff of paranormal that I felt added some depth to the characters and the plot. I liked the idea of Jenna’s “gift” and how she struggled to come to terms with how her ability affected Isaac the Devereaux Security team. Isaac is EXTREMELY protective and possessive which is a quality I always love in my alpha heroes! However, I had a hard time really connecting with the characters. Jenna first comes off as being pretty strong willed with her escape but as the storyline unfolds, she seems to lose her gumption between bouts of tears. Isaac’s constant pleading and begging to “please” Jenna also made me wince at times…it took away from his tough image! There was also some long winded passages and repitveness that was probably unnecessary. Overall, I’d give this one 3.5 stars. (I still love Maya Banks!) Told from dual POVs with a sticky sweet ending. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
escapes a terrifying past… into a more uncertain future.
When a terrified young woman tries to steal the SUV of Devereaux Security’s
toughest recruit, Isaac’s anger quickly turns into a strange sort of
protectiveness for the beautiful, bruised stranger. But when they are caught in a firestorm of bullets and Isaac is hit, he’s sure the end is near, until Jenna
touches him and closes his wounds. As he tries to bring Jenna to safety, she
refuses to tell him what danger haunts her or how she healed him, but Isaac
vows to do whatever it takes to gain her trust…and her heart. Because with just one touch, Isaac knows he wants Jenna to be his–forever.
